Giorgio De Chirico (1888 – 1978) is one of the most important figures of the twentieth century. In this episode, the team researches a small still life. Could it possibly be a De Chirico?
This classic "Veduta" – or Venetian view – has been attributed to both Marieschi and Guardi. Could it be by either of these two masters of 18th century Venetian vistas or another hand altogether?
In this program the team investigates a landscape which might be by the great 18th century artist Thomas Gainsborough. Gainsborough was born in 1727 in Sudbury, Suffolk. He spent much of his childhood sketching the fields and woods where he developed his passion for landscapes. It was with portraiture, though, that he made his name. By the time he died he was considered one of the greatest artists of his era.
