Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2017

 

Led by German pianist and conductor Christoph Eschenbach, the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic returns for its 14th annual open-air concert from Austria’s Imperial Schönbrunn Palace Gardens. In a program inspired by fairy tales and myths, soprano Renée Fleming performs arias from two operas by Antonin Dvořák as well as three songs by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

National Memorial Day Concert ranks among PBS’ highest-rated programs

 

Auli‘i Cravalho to perform National Anthem at PBS’ Memorial Day concertHONOLULU – Hawai‘i’s own Auli‘i Cravalho, star of Disney’s Moana, is scheduled to open this year’s National Memorial Day Concert on PBS with a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The concert will be broadcast from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

 

Auli‘i Cravalho is scheduled to perform the National Anthem at this year’s National Memorial Day Concert on PBS.

 

PBS Hawai‘i will air the National Memorial Day Concert Sunday, May 28 at 7 pm, with an encore broadcast at 9 pm. It will also be live streamed online on Facebook Live and www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert and available as Video on Demand for a limited time only, May 28 to June 10.

 

Oscar nominee and Emmy and Tony-Award winner Laurence Fishburne will join Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna to host the 28th annual edition of the PBS broadcast, which regularly ranks among the public television network’s highest-rated programs.

 

For almost three decades, PBS has presented this night of remembrance dedicated to the country’s men and women in uniform, their families at home and all those who have given their lives for our country. Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise, who has co-hosted the concert for the past eleven years, will present a 75th anniversary salute to the Doolittle Raiders, the aviators who changed the course of World
War II in the Pacific.

 

The all-star line-up for the event includes: General Colin L. Powell USA (Ret.); Renée Fleming; Vanessa Williams; Scotty McCreery; John Ondrasik of Five for Fighting; John Ortiz; Christopher Jackson; Ana Ortiz; Ronan Tynan; and Russell Watson, in performance with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly. Additional performers to be announced.

 

The program is a co-production of Michael Colbert of Capital Concerts and WETA, Washington, D.C. Executive Producer Michael Colbert has assembled an award-winning production team that features the top Hollywood talent behind some of television’s most prestigious entertainment awards shows including the Grammy Awards, Country Music Awards, Tony Awards, Saturday Night Live and more.

The all-star line-up includes: General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.); opera superstar Renée Fleming; iconic music legends The Beach Boys; country music singer Trace Adkins; actress S. Epatha Merkerson, actor Esai Morales and vocalist Alfie Boe, and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.

The Met presents a new staging of Verdi’s masterpiece, conducted by Yannick Nezet-Seguin and directed by Bartlett Sher, with Aleksandrs Antonenko as the tormented Moor of Venice; Sonya Yoncheva as Desdemona; and Zeljko Lucic as Otello’s sinister rival, Iago.

The Merry Widow

 

Broadway director and choreographer Susan Stroman makes her Met debut with a lavish new staging of Franz Lehár’s effervescent operetta. Soprano Renée Fleming adds a new character to her Met repertory as Hanna, the widowed millionairess. Sir Andrew Davis conducts a stellar cast that includes baritone Nathan Gunn as Danilo; tenor Alek Shrader as Camille de Rosillon; and baritone Sir Thomas Allen as Baron Zeta. Broadway star Kelli O’Hara makes her Met debut as Zeta’s wife, Valencienne. The operetta is performed in English. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato hosts.

Conceived and hosted by renowned American singer Renée Fleming, this groundbreaking festival of performances, master sessions and symposia brings together vocal masters, industry titans and emerging artists to celebrate the artistry, technique and challenges of professional singing. Fledgling artists receive one-on-one mentoring from iconic singers in a variety of genres: Eric Owens in classical, Dianne Reeves in jazz, Alison Krauss with Dr. Thomas Cleveland in country, Ben Folds in pop, Sutton Foster in musical theater and Kim Burrell in gospel. Joining these acclaimed artists for the festival’s genre-spanning centerpiece concert are Sara Bareilles, Kurt Elling, Josh Groban and Norm Lewis, with the National Symphony Orchestra and principal pops conductor Steven Reineke.

Met music director James Levine conducts Mozart’s barbed romance, a comic masterpiece about the romantic complications that ensue when two friends decide to test their fiancées’ fidelity. Lesley Koenig’s production features a cast of rising Met stars, including Susanna Phillips and Isabel Leonard as the sisters Fiordiligi and Dorabella; Matthew Polenzani and Rodion Pogossov as their fiancés, Ferrando and Guglielmo; and Danielle de Niese as their feisty maid, Despina. Maurizio Muraro is the cynical Don Alfonso. Soprano Renée Fleming hosts.
