In Hawaiian Hands: The Story of Reggae in Hawaiʻi Part 1: Roots of Creation
In keeping with PBS Hawaiʻi’s tradition of sharing community stories, In Hawaiian Hands: The Story of Reggae in Hawaiʻi highlights a pivotal yet untold chapter in local music history. Born in Jamaica in the late 1960s, reggae became a voice for resistance and pride, and when it reached Hawaiʻi, it resonated deeply with islanders, whose own struggles with identity and freedom mirrored those themes.
