Lahaina: Waves of Change
PBS HAWAIʻI PRESENTS
PBS HAWAIʻI, in partnership with the Hawaiian Legacy Foundation, features Lahaina: Waves of Change, one of ten documentary films by Eddie and Myrna Kamae.
The late Eddie Kamae and his wife Myrna created films to perpetuate Hawai‘i’s cultural heritage for future generations.
Lahaina: Waves of Change documents how in 1999, Lahaina’s plantation era came to an end with the closing of the West Maui town’s Pioneer Mill, the beating heart of Lahaina’s sugar industry.
This film features the last harvest, the last cane burning and the final days of operation at the mill, revealing a town with great historical and sacred significance, as well as the persistence to thrive into the future.
