Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle –
A Voces Special Presentation

“Ruben Salazar: Man in the Middle” A Voces Special Presentation, provides insights and answers to one of the most bizarre, disturbing and controversial fatal shootings of the mid-20th century. Part political expose, part narrative deconstruction, part poetic meditation, the film is an independent and thorough investigation of the life and death of Ruben Salazar, a prominent Civil Rights era journalist. As it sheds light on Salazar’s slaying by a Sheriff’s deputy in 1970, it extricates him from the myths that were constructed to suit political agendas. It also offers a compelling look at an historical period that still resonates today — an era of repressive law enforcement and of a people’s turbulent search for recognition as full-fledged Americans.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI
Sex Trafficking of Minors in Hawaiʻi

In the midst of Hawaiʻi’s beauty, there is a dark side, hidden from plain view. It is a world in which children (legally defined as individuals under age 18) are trafficked for sex. Hawaiʻi was the last state in country to pass an anti-sex trafficking law. Advocates say Hawaiʻi still lacks a law mandating training to help law enforcement personnel and others identity victims. Is Hawaiʻi doing enough to prevent the Sex Trafficking of Minors? Join the conversation on INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI. You can phone in, or leave us a comment on Facebook or Twitter.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI
Sex Trafficking in Hawaiʻi

Sex trafficking, a multi-million dollar international industry that uses the internet and the street trade to exploit women, is real in Hawaiʻi. A study indicates that a disproportionate number of victims are Native Hawaiian women. The same study says that local law enforcement has been ineffective in addressing the problem, and even complicit in keeping it alive. Is there a solution? This week on INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI, we’ll discuss adult victims; a future episode will cover minors. You can join the discussion by phoning in, or leave us a comment on Facebook or Twitter.
