The Exterminating Angel

 

See the American premiere of Thomas Adès’ opera, a surreal fantasy of a dinner party from which the guests can’t escape, based on Luis Buñuel’s 1962 film. Starring John Tomlinson and Alice Coote, with direction from librettist Tom Cairns and conducted by Adès.

 

 

Symphony for Nature:
The Britt Orchestra at Crater Lake

 

When classical musicians are joined by Klamath drummers for an extraordinary world premiere inspired by Oregon’s breathtaking Crater Lake, deep connections between people, art and nature are revealed in an environment rich with historic and spiritual significance.

 

This new half-hour documentary artfully portrays the world premiere of “Natural History,” the powerful composition by Michael Gordon inspired by and performed at the edge of legendary Crater Lake. The original score, commissioned by the Britt Music & Arts Festival in honor of the centennial of America’s National Park Service, brought members of the Britt Orchestra together with a diverse ensemble of musicians, including the Klamath tribe family drum group Steiger Butte Singers, regional choristers, brass and percussionists, led by charismatic conductor Teddy Abrams.

Pavarotti: A Voice for the Ages

 

Luciano Pavarotti brought opera to the masses with “Nessun dorma”. In this concert, he performs that hit, along with arias from La BohèmeRigoletto and Aida; Neapolitan songs in arrangements by Henry Mancini, including “Mamma” and “O Sole Mio;” and duets with Bono, Sting, Vanessa Williams and Eric Clapton.

La Traviata

 

Sonya Yoncheva sings the role of the tragic courtesan Violetta in Verdi’s classic, with Michael Fabiano as her ardent lover Alfredo and Thomas Hampson as his disapproving father Germont. This revival of Willy Decker’s staging is conducted by Nicola Luisotti.

Romeo et Juliette

 

The lectrifying team of Vittorio Grigolo and Diana Damrau reunites for a new production by Bartlett Sher of Gounod’s opera, based on the Shakespeare play. Damrau makes her role debut as Juliette, Grigolo sings Romeo and Elliot Madore sings Mercutio. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.
