INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAI‘I
How Cyber-Secure Are You?

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAI‘I revisits one of the program’s most popular discussion topics from last year – online security. From the internet, to mobile devices, to virtual worlds, it’s becoming more challenging to discern between genuine threats and ones exacerbated by the media. Meanwhile, cyber-criminals are becoming increasingly aggressive in their strategies. The experts who appeared in last year’s discussion, including guests from the FBI’s Honolulu Division and the University of Hawai‘i, return with the latest information and advice on preventing and avoiding online security breaches.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAI‘I
How Cyber-Secure Are You?

INSIGHTS explores cyber-security in this modern age of data. Your new big screen smart TV looks innocent enough. But Wikileaks’ latest raft of documents alleged the CIA had created tools to turn smart TVs into bugging devices. Vizio and Netflix already admitted to tracking customer behavior through TV’s. Our smartphones and computers can be targeted by hackers. But you have more control over these intrusions and criminal acts than you might imagine.

Your questions and comments are welcome via phone, email and via Twitter during the Live Broadcast.

NOVA
Rise of the Hackers

Our lives have gone digital. We shop, bank and even date online. Computers hold our treasured photographs, private emails, and all of our personal information. This data is precious — and cybercriminals want it. Now, NOVA goes behind the scenes of the fast-paced world of cryptography to meet the scientists battling to keep our data safe. They are experts in extreme physics, math and a new field called “ultra-paranoid computing,” all working to forge unbreakable codes and build ultra-fast computers. From the two men who uncovered the world’s most advanced cyber weapon to the computer expert who worked out how to hack into cash machines and scientists who believe they can store a password in your unconscious brain, NOVA investigates how a new global geek squad is harnessing cutting-edge science — all to stay one step ahead of the hackers.
