Maui County Mayor, Kaua‘i County Mayor

 

This week’s INSIGHTS features two Neighbor Island mayoral races:

 

–At 8:00 pm, it’s the candidates in the race to become the first new Maui County Mayor in eight years. Maui County Council woman Elle Cochran and former councilman Mike Victorino emerged as the top two candidates from an eight-person primary.

 

–Then, at 8:30 pm, it’s the candidates in the race to become the first new Kaua‘i County Mayor in 10 years. Kaua‘i County Council members Derek Kawakami and Mel Rapozo were the top vote getters in the primary.

. AMERICAN MASTERS offers an unprecedented look at the life of
Harper Lee, illuminating the phenomenon behind To Kill a Mockingbird and
the Oscar-winning 1962 film adaptation. The documentary reveals the context and
history of the novel’s Deep South setting, and the social changes it inspired
after publication. Tom Brokaw, Rosanne Cash, Anna Quindlen, Scott Turow, Oprah
Winfrey and others reflect on the novel’s power, influence, popularity, and the
ways it has shaped their lives. This updated program also previews Go Set a
Watchman
, Lee’s novel set to be published for the first time on July 14th.

Former Congressman Ed Case beat six competitors to win the Democratic nomination, while former state lawmaker Cam Cavasso beat his lone competitor to win the Republican nomination. Other challengers for the seat are Green Party candidate Zachary Burd, Libertarian Michelle Tippens and non-partisan candidate Calvin Griffin.
