Julie Andrews hosts a traditional ringing in of the New Year with the Vienna Philharmonic, under the baton of guest conductor Gustavo Dudamel. The program features Strauss Family waltzes and a picturesque range of Vienna landmarks.

The Vienna Philharmonic performs their annual open-air summer concert from the gardens of Austria’s Imperial Schonbrunn Palace. Zubin Mehta conducts, with pianist Rudolf Buchbinder as soloist in works by Grieg, Sibelius, Richard Strauss and Johann Strauss II.

The Met’s effervescent production of Rossini’s classic comedy stars Isabel Leonard as the feisty Rosina, Lawrence Brownlee as her conspiring flame and Christopher Maltman as the endlessly resourceful and charming barber of Seville. Michele Mariotti conducts the vivid score, which features some of the most instantly recognizable melodies in opera.

by Angela Lansbury as a well-to-do Jewish matron and James Earl Jones as her
African American chauffeur. The twosome’s unlikely friendship evolves during
the tumultuous years of the Civil Rights era.

The Merry Widow

 

Broadway director and choreographer Susan Stroman makes her Met debut with a lavish new staging of Franz Lehár’s effervescent operetta. Soprano Renée Fleming adds a new character to her Met repertory as Hanna, the widowed millionairess. Sir Andrew Davis conducts a stellar cast that includes baritone Nathan Gunn as Danilo; tenor Alek Shrader as Camille de Rosillon; and baritone Sir Thomas Allen as Baron Zeta. Broadway star Kelli O’Hara makes her Met debut as Zeta’s wife, Valencienne. The operetta is performed in English. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato hosts.
