GREAT PERFORMANCES AT THE MET
Nabucco

 

Metropolitan Opera Music Director James Levine conducts Verdi’s early drama of Ancient Babylon, with Plácido Domingo adding a new role to his repertory as the title character. Liudmyla Monastyrska sings the role of Abigaille, Nabucco’s willful daughter, with Jamie Barton as Fenena, Russell Thomas as Ismaele, and Dmitry Belosselskiy as the prophet Zaccaria.

A Symphonic Journey

 

Rick Steves teams up with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra for a musical journey that begins in the United States, and touches down in seven different European countries. The special celebrates music’s power to stir the patriotic soul. Rick utilizes his extensive knowledge of European history and culture to help set the context for each piece. The orchestra performs a selection of stirring 19th-century anthems by Romantic-era composers, including Grieg, Smetana, Strauss, Berlioz, Elgar, Wagner and Verdi.

 

A Celebration of Peace Through Music

 

Concert conductor Sir Gilbert Levine leads world-class orchestral and vocal ensembles in a moving musical tribute to the 2014 canonizations of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII by Pope Francis. Selections include Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” Verdi’s Messa Da Requiem and others. Special field pieces follow Levine as he travels to Buenos Aires, Kraków, Venice, Vienna, Rome and Washington, D.C. to show how music and spirit can unite our world.
