Take a deep breath … and exhale.

Now, let’s turn the page, together. The time is right.

Something magical happens when you turn the page. The element of the unknown can trigger suspense and anticipation that can quickly turn to contemplation and even apprehension. Our imagination has the power to unlock a world of endless opportunities.

The thought takes me back to my adolescence and fond memories of reading for hours at a time. I was an avid reader and loyal follower of Leroy Brown, aka Encyclopedia Brown. I couldn’t get enough of the 10-year-old child detective who had an uncanny knack for solving mysteries. I must’ve read all 29 novels at least twice. Turning the page then was filled with excitement, inspiration and hope … and it still is.

With 2020 behind us, it is vital we look ahead with a purpose and move forward with courage, confidence and hope for a healthier and more equitable future for all.

2021 has already provided new adventures for many of us, with new promises, challenges and expectations. Our PBS Hawaiʻi team is resolved to remain on mission, never forgetting our responsibility to provide the community with mission-based programs and initiatives, and serve our community with integrity and commitment. This is fundamental and non-negotiable and will help us navigate calm and turbulent waters.

The new strategies and new goals we are currently developing will guide us in creating fresh, authentic and relevant content. We are also gathering research and listening intently to what our constituents and communities are saying as we set our course for the future.

Our team has done much reflection over the past several weeks and is leaving the fatigue and frustration of the pandemic behind. We are grateful for those who join us in turning the page and greeting our new chapter with hope and optimism. We have much work to do and we couldn’t be more inspired.
