Change is coming to Windward Oʻahu. Two seats in the State House of Representatives, representing Kailua, Kāneʻohe Bay and Waimānalo, are being vacated by longtime incumbents. INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 features candidates in these two races:

–In the Democratic Primary for House District 50, Patrick Branco, who served as a U.S. diplomat in South America and Pakistan, faces Micah Pregitzer, a science teacher at Kalāheo High School. (This district has been represented since 1990 by Republican Cynthia Thielen, who’s retiring.)

–In the Republican Primary for House District 51, former small business owner Doni Chong opposes Kukana Kama-Toth, a community advocate who serves on the Waimānalo Neighborhood Board. (The current officeholder is a Democrat, Chris Lee, who’s leaving to run for the State Senate.)
