CEO MESSAGE
Join us this month for Nā Mele featuring multi-Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Natalie Ai Kamauu at Palikū Theatre on the Windward Community College campus in Kāne‘ohe, O‘ahu.
Ai Kamauu recently won Female Vocalist of the Year for the sixth time and Album of the Year for Natalie Noelani. She also took home the title of Hawaiian Music Video of the Year for “No Waimea Ke Aloha” with her husband Iolani Kamauu. “No Waimea Ke Aloha” also won Hawaiian Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
We humbly ask you to tune in on Monday, December 11 at 7:30 pm as we broadcast a live pledge program from our Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Multimedia Studio.
Throughout the 90-minute program, Ai Kamauu, with son Chaz on bass, Iolani on guitar and daughter Sha-Lei and daughter-in-law Hiwa-Lei dancing hula, takes us on a whirlwind musical journey
of emotions from the toe-tapping “Hula Baby” to the soulful “Uhiwai.”
We extend our sincere gratitude to our friends at Palikū Theatre and Windward Community College once again for their hospitality and support of PBS Hawai‘i. We are grateful to capture special moments like this to celebrate and share with our viewers here and beyond our shores.
Only PBS Hawai‘i can bring you enriching content like this and we can only do so with your support. The trust you place in us is a responsibility or kuleana that each person on our staff embraces and takes to heart.
Through your generosity, we continue to:
- Produce monthly programs like PBS Hawai‘i Classics and Home is Here, that take viewers to new and familiar places, to meet new friends and reunite with old ones.
- Deliver transformative, civic engagement through programs like INSIGHTS on PBS Hawai‘i and KĀKOU: Hawai‘i’s Town Hall.
- Bring you Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winners like The Mākaha Sons, Kulāiwi and Keilana on our Nā Mele series.
- Showcase quality independent films like KAPU: Sacred Hawaiian Burials and Dear Thalia on PBS Hawai‘i Presents.
- Provide a safe place for our keiki to learn, explore and discover through PBS KIDS shows and HIKI NŌ on PBS Hawai‘i.
- Reach a worldwide audience on our audio podcast What School You Went?
- Maintain your access to national news coverage and information through PBS NewsHour, NHK World, BBC News, NOVA and Nature; award-winning documentaries on Independent Lens and POV; and dramas on Masterpiece like Miss Scarlet and The Duke.
Whether you are joining us for news, drama, arts or history, please know we approach each day with full understanding of kuleana to you and the communities we serve. It is, and will always be, our guiding star.
We hope to see you on December 11 for what promises to be a beautiful evening of song, dance and new memories. We humbly ask you to join us in this season of giving to help our fundraising efforts.
With gratitude and aloha,

Ron Mizutani and the PBS Hawai‘i family
