Many incumbent Democrats in the State Legislature are facing challengers in the upcoming primary election. INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 features candidates in two of those races:

–House District 13, comprised of Northeast Maui, Molokaʻi, Lanaʻi and Kahoʻolawe, has incumbent Lynn Decoite opposed by Native Hawaiian activist Walter Ritte.

–Senate District 13 includes the Oʻahu neighborhoods of Downtown Honolulu, Nuʻuanu, Chinatown and Iwilei. Incumbent Karl Rhoads faces business owner Kevin McDonald in a winner-take-all primary.
