About six months after 9/11, Hawai‘i TV journalist-turned-independent producer Emme Tomimbang Burns learned that two teenaged daughters of a fallen Bronx, New York firefighter, Ray Meisenheimer, were planning to perform a dance in honor of their father at a 9/11 remembrance event in their Long Island community. The song they selected to dance to was a September 11th tribute by Hawai‘i boy band DisGuyz. When it was confirmed that the band would travel to New York to perform its song live for the dance, Tomimbang Burns followed with a crew to document the story. That trip led to a succession of stories about the Hawai‘i-New York connection in relation to September 11th, resulting in the one-hour documentary.

PBS Hawai‘i will air a commercial-free version of the documentary courtesy of Ulu‘ulu: The Henry Ku‘ualoha Giugni Moving Image Archive of Hawai‘i, which is now the steward of the Emme’s Island Moments collection. This will be the first time since her passing in February of 2024 that one of her programs will be broadcast on statewide television.
