Should any Form of Gambling be Allowed to Raise Revenue for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands?
On INSIGHTS, we’ll discuss how State lawmakers are considering ways to help the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands overcome years of inefficiency in putting Native Hawaiians on homestead land the department holds in trust. One controversial idea floated this year was to allow the department to build a resort casino on DHHL land near Kapolei, Oʻahu to generate revenue to build homes for the more than 20,000 beneficiaries on a wait list. Some beneficiaries have been on the list for decades.
