This episode features a special collection of student voices and a montage of student-captured footage from Montessori School of Maui, H.P. Baldwin High School and Kihei Elementary School about what makes Maui unique and what it’s like to grow up there.

H.P. Baldwin High School senior Samuel Paci, who was born and raised on Maui, hosts the show and shares a story he produced about his stepfather, who works as a Maui firefighter and was among those involved in fighting the fires in August.

The episode also features a story produced by students of Lahaina Intermediate School before the fire that temporarily displaced them from their campus. Their report “Zero Waste School” explores how their school became among the first public schools in the state to make an eco-friendly switch in their cafeteria.  

In addition, students honor Lahaina and the island of Maui by sharing memorable stories about the island from the HIKI NŌ archives, many of which serve as special time capsules of historic Lahaina. Those featured include the work from students at Lahainaluna High School, Lahaina Intermediate School, Maui Waena Intermediate School, and Maui High School.
