The theme of the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s worldwide voyage is malama honua, which means “to care for our island Earth.” Along with sharing stories about malama honua during its physical voyage around the world, the PVS is also sharing stories with the world virtually, through its Learning Journeys/Share Your Story program.

HIKI NŌ on PBS HAWAI‘I debuts as student share their experience of the pandemic.
HIKI NŌ student and incoming Kaua`i High School senior Natalie Lett was selected to attend the prestigious PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs’ 2022 Summer Academy. The intensive video journalism boot camp took place at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. Natalie worked with three other student journalists from across the country to produce this outstanding story about Frank Ornelas, who founded the Rascepatatiando Dance Company where he trains promising next generation dancers who don’t have the financial means to enroll in dance classes.
On Wednesday, May 25 Mental Health America of Hawai’i (MHAH) and PBS Hawaiʻi honored six HIKI NŌ students and their teachers in the 2nd Annual Student Voice Awards. The awards were presented to the honorees at the 2022 Mental Health Mahalo Awards & Awareness Celebration luncheon held at the Ala Moana Hotel.  Below are the honorees, with links to their stories and acceptance speeches.
