SHOOTS Summit Hawaiʻi 2026: Fo’Reals!

On this episode of HIKI NŌ on PBS Hawaiʻi, viewers will be immersed in Hawaiʻi’s annual youth media conference: SHOOTS Summit Hawai‘i, which celebrated its fourth year with the theme “Fo’Reals!”

Students from elementary through high school participate in the three-day event, which combines educational sessions with nearly two dozen contests—several of whose winning entries are featured in this episode.

PBS Hawaiʻi’s professional mentors and staff are among many volunteers who lead educational workshops on journalism, video production and storytelling at the conference.

This statewide school media competition and conference is organized by Hawaiʻi Creative Media Foundation, a nonprofit that was founded by local media teachers.

There were more than 900 students, teachers and chaperones in attendance, setting a new record for participation.

The episode features interviews with HIKI NŌ schools including Honowai Elementary School, Waikīkī Elementary School, E.B. deSilva Elementary School, James Campbell High School, and others.
