The 1960s marked the birth of a groundbreaking musical genre in Jamaica, evolving from the rhythms of ska and rocksteady. Dubbed “reggae,” it became a powerful medium for conveying messages of resistance against colonialism and slavery, while also serving as a symbol of cultural pride and unity.

As reggae music spread beyond the Caribbean, it quickly resonated with our people, leaving an indelible mark on our society. However, with its arrival came critical discussions about cultural identity and authenticity.
