Tonight's INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 program features Democratic Primary Candidates for State House District 20. For the first time in more than four decades, the seat will be filled by someone other than Representative Calvin Say.

INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 features Windward Oʻahu’s four-way Democratic Primary contest for the open seat representing State House District 51, Kailua and Waimānalo. (Incumbent Democrat Chris Lee is running for the State Senate.) None of the candidates has ever served in the State Legislature. All have longtime connections to Kailua.

Change is coming to Windward Oʻahu. Two seats in the State House of Representatives, representing Kailua, Kāneʻohe Bay and Waimānalo, are being vacated by longtime incumbents. INSIGHTS Election 2020 features candidates in these two races.

Many incumbent Democrats in the State Legislature are facing challengers in the upcoming primary election. INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI Election 2020 features candidates in two of those races: –House District 13, comprised of Northeast Maui, Molokaʻi, Lanaʻi and Kahoʻolawe, has incumbent Lynn Decoite opposed by Native Hawaiian activist Walter Ritte.

Longtime City Councilmember Ann Kobayashi is “terming out,” leaving an open seat in Honolulu City Council District 5. This race is to represent the district’s wide range of neighborhoods, each with its own identity – from high rises in newly developed Kakaʻako to historic homes in Mānoa and St. Louis Heights.

Election 2020: The Honolulu Prosecutor Race featured seven candidates vying to replace outgoing Keith Kaneshiro as Honolulu Prosecutor. In nearly four decades, Honolulu has only had three elected Prosecutors.
